for this glossary i've been referring to moves where the fabrics are tied somehow at one point but separated above that point as "open silks," by analogy with opening a door (it's maybe more like opening a bead curtain).

rebekah leach in her beginning aerial fabric instructional manual refers to the fabrics as "ribbons" when they are separated, but does not make the distinction i do here between ribbons that are tied together somewhere vs ribbons that hang entirely separate.
