hip key:
(hip lock)
a peculiar way of holding position on the fabric where the silk runs between the legs and around the waist (in any of a variety of ways) and the body is supported at the waist, hanging parallel to the floor. the performer turns belly towards the pole of the fabric, puts both legs together, and pikes (folds at the waist), turning the top hip strongly towards the pole. somehow this is balanced and stable, though it seems precarious when you first try it.
