invert

flipping upside down. usually, hanging from the fabric by your arms and then, while still hanging, swinging your legs and butt up and your head down (this is often done with legs in a straddle, which makes it easier; but it doesn't have to be). this turns out to be a watershed skill-- a lot of other skills require it, and so learning to do it opens up a lot of possibilities. some people can just muscle through it right from the start, but if you can't, there are actually a lot of fine points of balance that you can learn that will enable you to learn how to do it without all that strength. i'm going to wimp out here, though, and say i don't really know how to describe them; perhaps someone else will be able to fill in something useful.
